America’s Team Wins America’s Game
Congratulations to those who drafted the Saints in their JHB Sports leagues. If you had New Orleans you almost certainly finished “in the green”. With 24 total points earned (13 regular season and 11 playoffs), the Saints had the most of any franchise this season. Not bad for a team that averaged being picked #14 out of 32 teams.
Growing up in the late 70’s and 80’s the Dallas Cowboys were America’s Team. For as popular as that franchise is, there is certainly an argument that the New Orleans Saints have supplanted them at least for now. Unless you are a die hard Colts fan or completely devoid of feeling, you couldn’t help but be absolutely thrilled for Drew Brees, Sean Payton, the Saints, the city of New Orleans, and the entire gulf coast region.
And a quick note on Indy: with how classy the Colts and Peyton Manning are there really were no losers on Super Bowl Sunday. They handled defeat like they handled victory 3 years prior. For a guy that would have the same expression on his face for winning the lottery as he would for losing an arm, Jim Caldwell showed a glimpse of genuine emotion after the game. He was actually impressive and surprisingly eloquent in defeat.
Players and Commissioners, the game is now over. The figures you see in each Player’s earnings field are final (assuming you played with a point value). Commissioners, it’s now time to collect from the losers to pay the winners. It’s always easiest to simply have all losers pay the Commissioner and have the Commissioner pay out the winners after he/she collects from the losers.
Thanks to all JHB Sports members for making year 2 a smash hit. Surely some of you had more fun than others – particularly those that drafted well. We hope to see all of you back next year and PLEASE spread the word! We’ll be launching an NCAA Tournament version in time for this year’s March Madness (the ANTI-bracket way to enjoy the tourney). We may even have a World Cup version up in time for FIFA 2010 in June which only happens every 4 years. They say soccer is something like 10X more popular than the NFL worldwide.
As a final note, I’d like to highlight my friend’s iPhone app for March Madness, PocketBracket. If you are hardcore bracketologist this is the place for you. Create brackets and manage pools from your iPhone, iPod Touch, or Google Android Device with PocketBracket. Game On at www.pocketbracket.com.
